Running on LPG now. Fuel prices rising sharply so we've got to find ways of economising.

  1. This weeks fuel price rise, followed by the hike in VAT up to 20% in January means that anyone who uses transport will be seeing a significant rise in prices. Businesses can't simply absorb these increases so they are either passed on to the consumer or we have to explore cheaper operating methods.

One such alternative is switching from petrol or diesel to LPG or Liquified Petroleum Gas. LPG is significantly cheaper by around 40%, but the margin is closing steadily. As only a small percentage of filling stations supply gas, they have realised they have a cornered market and are naturally capitalising on it. This will probably continue for the foreseeable future, at least until the supermarket chains see enough profit and begin fitting their own stations with gas pumps. Even then though, you have to wonder if history will repeat itself. Some of us can remember when diesel was priced much cheaper than petrol, but eventually we all bought into that and look where it got us. I'm inclined to think that in two or three years, the gas price will be up there with petrol and diesel and the benefits will have been forgotten.
